The next generation iPhone 6 will apparently be launching on Friday, September 19, according to a new report from Chinese site Tencent (via MacRumors). According to the report, the new device will be released in both 32 Gb and 64GB models and follows up on previous rumors that also suggest a similar date for the iPhone 6 launch date. Interestingly, there is no news on a 16GB model although it is not clear if Apple is planning to discontinue this and make the 32GB model the lowest storage capacity available.
Prices of 5,288 yuan and 6,288 yuan (approximately $850 and $1000) were also touted for the new models which represents an increase over the current $749 and $849 price points of the current 32GB and 64GB models. This is also in line with recent reports suggesting that Apple would be bumping the price points at which the iPhone would be sold at, although it is not clear if these price points refer to the 4.7 inch or 5.5 inch models of the iPhone 6.
If the price points are accurate it would be an interesting strategy for Apple in that the difference between a device with 32GB versus 64GB would be $150, which is a significant bump in price for the inclusion of a relatively cheap component in flash storage.
