A new report is suggesting that Apple will be releasing a new version of the iPod touch next week that would have a lower storage capacity than the current models, but would also have a lower price. The report comes from MacRumors, who have heard from sources that the new iPod touch (fifth generation) would have 16GB storage, a rear camera and would be priced at $199. This is lower than the $299 32GB iPod touch, or the $229 16GB iPod touch with no rear camera.
The new model would represent a very good deal for users looking to get into the iOS 8 ecosystem, as while the new device has lower onboard storage, it also runs iOS 7 (and soon iOS 8) and thus has the ability to run any of the millions of apps on the iOS App Store. At $199, the device is also significantly cheaper than an iPhone.
