A new rumor is suggesting that the production of an iPhone 6 with a 5.44 inch screen could be constrained in the coming months as prices of sapphire increase around the globe. According to supply chain sources (via gforgames.com), Apple will initially be limited in their first production run to 10 million units of the iPhone 6 with a 5.44 inch screen because it utilises a sapphire glass coating in its display.
Interestingly, this rumor conflicts with other reports which have suggested that the larger screen version of the iPhone 6 would have a 5.5 inch display, slightly larger than the device with a 4.7 inch screen that is expected in the fall. In addition, it’s unclear how rising prices would affect production, particularly since the device has not yet been launched and thus increases can be absorbed by the launch price.
