According to a new report, a 5.5 inch version of the next generation iPhone 6, or ‘iPhone Air’ as it has been referred to, will not launch as early as originally anticipated, and will in fact not launch until 2015. The report comes from the Taiwanese publication Industrial and Commercial Times (via MacRumors), and suggests that the reason for the later launch estimate is that Apple is having trouble finding a battery technology that will meet the significantly thinner form factor of the device.
It’s unclear, however, how the battery issues would affect an iPhone 6 with a slightly smaller screen, such as 4.7 inches, as such a device is thought to be launching this year. Presumably, the iPhone with the smaller screen would also have a thinner form factor, but the report makes no mention of battery issues for this device.
