Apple has today released a modified version of the iPod touch which, instead of including a new feature, actually removes one in favor of a significant reduction in price. The company has released an update to the iPod touch in the form of a fifth generation 16 GB model with a 4 inch screen that lacks a rear iSight camera. The price of the new model is $229 and is available in black only, with a silver rear panel.
The new model replaces the previous generation of the 16GB iPod touch and adds to the iPod touch line-up which is also comprised of 32 and 64GB models, although these are available in multiple colors and with a rear camera. The new device, also lacking wrist strap attachment capabilities, is likely to bring the 16GB iPod touch hardware into line with the current models of iPod touch and iPhone, as the company continues to work on the upcoming release of iOS 7.
