A new report is suggesting that a new version of the iPad mini will be announced this summer, and then again early next year. According to analyst Richard Shim of NPD DisplaySearch, the iPad mini could be refreshed twice in the coming twelve months (via CNET). Notably the analyst suggests that the first time a Retina Display will appear in the device will be this year, indicating that the next variant of the iPad mini will have a Retina Display. The analyst also suggests that another version of the iPad mini would arrive in Q1 of 2014.
The new information can be placed in the context of previous rumors, such as those from well-sourced analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who has suggested that an iPad mini with Retina Display could appear between August and November this year. This timetable would mean that such a device would could appear at the Worldwide Developer Conference to be held by Apple in June, but may not launch for several weeks. However, the lack of specifics in the rumors surrounding the new iPad mini certainly do not offer any concrete evidence of when it would actually launch.
