A new report is suggesting that Apple is targeting a launch for iOS 7 ‘as soon as September’ but that testing major new features, including a new user interface, could mean that this target is pushed back or that the software is released without all intended features. According to Bloomberg, Apple has been making a major push, under the direction of Jony Ive, to remove the skeuomorphic elements to their iOS user interface, removing drawn textures like wood and leather. The new iOS software will apparently contain significant changes to Newsstand, to the E-mail app and to the Calendar app.
The report goes on to suggest that the engineers working on iOS 7 are ‘racing to finish’ it so that Apple is able to offer a preview of the software at the WWDC in June. The report doesn’t offer any detail on exactly what the changes are, but previous rumors have suggested that Ive is ‘flattening’ the user interface with a view to significantly transforming the look of iOS.
The WWDC conference takes place from June 10-14 2013 in San Francisco and Apple is widely expected to demo both iOS 7 and OS X 10.9 at the event.
