Apple is looking to add some additional features to both iMessage and FaceTime applications on iOS devices. The company has today posted a job opening for an iOS Communications Application Engineer who will help to make significant improvements to the FaceTime and iMessage applications on iPhone. The advertisement asks for someone who will ‘take the revolutionary iPhone to the next level’ and ‘will be responsible for implementing new features to our existing FaceTime and iMessage applications’.
Unsurprisingly, there are no specific details offered on what the new features could potentially be, but they will likely form part of the new iOS 7 operating system. The iOS 7 release date has not been revealed but the new OS has been rumored to be unveiled at an Apple event this June alongside the iPhone 5S. The company is likely looking to improve on the number of users utilizing iMessage for sending messages. Currently the service sends around 2 billion per day, compared to the popular Whatsapp messaging app which is sending over 17 billion messages daily, although this figure applies to both iOS and Android devices.
With regard to FaceTime, Apple may be looking to implement more features to compete with services like Skype, which offer features like group video calling as part of their premium paid service. It was also recently revealed that Apple has patented new features specific to FaceTime such as improved Auto Exposure functionality in variable lighting conditions.
