A new report is suggesting that Apple will be launching a low cost iPhone with a 4.5 inch screen and a polycarbonate body assembly in 2014, after initial plans for a launch this year have apparently changed. The report, from Macotakara, says that Apple will be targeting a $330 price point for the iPhone in unsubsidized, contract free sales, making the device particularly attractive for developing markets. The device will apparently have 4.5 inch screen, significantly larger than the iPhone 5 screen, and will apparently be of a similar or larger thickness.
The report follows on from previous rumors suggesting similar plans for Apple to launch a lower cost iPhone with a larger screen, although those rumors have pointed towards a launch in 2013 rather than the 2014 launch that is detailed in this new report. The new model will apparently utilize a polycarbonate coating similar to that found in the white polycarbonate MacBook, albeit in several colors.
The report also suggests that a new ‘iPhone 5S’ will launch later this year with an improved camera system, although no details are given on specific launch times.
