Rumor: OS X Mavericks Actually Launching At End Of October

A new report is saying that the next major version of the Mac operating system, OS X 10.9 Mavericks, will actually be launching at the end of October this year. Quashing hopes that the new OS would be released alongside iOS 7 and the new iPhone models this month, 9to5Mac apparently have a source that is saying that Apple is focused upon getting iOS 7 released first, and will then work on the release of Mavericks. This would put the timeline for the public release of the new OS at the end of October.

There are no details given on an exact date of the release but the site has suggested in the past that the release of iOS 7 for the iPad may also take place a little later than iOS 7 for iPhone, which could open the door for a simultaneous release of iOS 7 for iPad and OS X Mavericks in the coming weeks. Given that Developer Preview 7 of Mavericks, a non-GM edition, was only released on September 3, this strongly supports the idea that the public release of the final version of Mavericks won’t take place for several weeks.

Apple has not yet released pricing details for the latest version of the Mac operating system, but the last major release, OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, was priced at $19.99 on the Mac App Store. Mavericks itself contains a substantial number of new features and improvements, as well as Mac versions of Apple Maps and iBooks.
